Big News!

Wow it sure has been a while since I last posted here! There have been some huge changes in my life since my last post with a little baby twist…  For starters I haven’t posted here since I headed to Squamish for the 8k race and I haven’t been for a run since SeaWheeze 2016 last August. This is because I was focusing on expanding our family.

My partner and I had been trying to get pregnant for a number of months without much luck.  I thought easing back on the amount of running I was doing could help the process.  Running stresses the body and I just figured I had nothing to lose to try and eliminate as much stress as I could.  Because I wasn’t sharing that journey on my social media I found I was at a loss for what to write and post here.  I was going through one of the biggest and most important journeys of my life and I felt that anything I posted was almost dishonest. To post without mentioning anything about it felt like I wasn’t being my true self.

The process of going through each cycle closely monitoring everything my body was doing, taking clomid, and finally injectable hormones was really tough. I found myself really withdrawing from all online activity because I didn’t know how to share some parts of my life without sharing this. How do I explain why I am suddenly not running, or going to the gym as often, and so on.

But I am so excited to share that we were successful in our fertility journey and are now expecting a sweet little baby boy! While I am already step-mom to a teenage son, this is my first time to carry a child 🙂

The first trimester was a little tough to continue physical activity as I was super exhausted and napped nearly every day. I am now almost 28 weeks, coming up to the end of my second trimester, and have been enjoying having my energy back! While I am still not running (though missing it terribly!), I have been frequenting the gym, yoga studio, and walking to work each day.

27 weeks

I feel great and am grateful that I have had a very easy and enjoyable pregnancy so far 🙂

The nature of this blog is sure to change now that we have a little one on the way. I imagine I will still talk mostly about running (when I start again postpartum), workouts, monthly goals, and yoga as well as yummy healthy recipes.  There will just be a little more baby thrown in there – I am excited to share how I am keeping fit and healthy through my pregnancy and what fitness will look like for me once the little nugget gets here.

Spring is finally here!

I definitely have more to share about our fertility journey and will likely write more about it in the future. I am also really excited to hear about your pregnancy, as well as health and fitness, adventures.

What was your biggest struggle keeping fit and healthy while pregnant?

What is your biggest tip/trick for a first time mom?

AH!!! CONGRATS!!!!! 😀 I am so thrilled for you! Seriously, exercise can really affect your reproductive system, that’s for sure (going through that now) but… The universe works in mysterious ways!

Thank you! Yes any kind of exercise is stress on your body – even if it feels good and releases endorphins and you don’t feel like you are efforting too much. I have a tough time moderating my effort level too so I thought dropping running (and all extra physical stresses) could help in getting pregnant. Whether it did or not I suppose Ill never really know – I just tried to listen to my body and do what felt right for me.
Yes the universe definitely has its own plans and timing 🙂
Good luck with your journey too!

Congratulations! How very exciting! For me running didn’t happen the first go round as I had to have surgery at 12 weeks pregnant and then the second go round it was just super uncomfortable. Wishing you an easy pregnancy and healthy baby boy!

Yes, before I got pregnant I definitely had a different idea of what my pregnancy would look like! I imagined I would continue running all through it and doing a ton of yoga and pretty much keeping my regular active lifestyle. I was so exhausted in the first trimester I didn’t do much of anything at all. I make the effort to walk to work most mornings, try to get to the gym 1-2 times a week, and stay mobile around the house tidying and cleaning (although it takes me far longer with more breaks to get stuff done!).
Sorry to hear you had to have surgery – that must have been scary! Also I am carrying what feels very low so I can’t imagine running would be very comfortable anyway.
      Thanks 🙂
